City of Sedalia Addresses Recent Severe Traffic Collision at Broadway & Engineer Intersection; Commends Community Response
Last Friday morning, a devastating traffic accident transpired at the intersection of Broadway and Engineer Streets. The collision led to injuries for five individuals, with varying degrees of severity.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has indicated that Kayla R. Blakely of Houstonia failed to heed a stop signal while piloting her 2010 Chevy Tahoe, subsequently causing a collision with a 2022 International, operated by Sedalia resident Brandon J. Hill. The collision resulted in Hill’s vehicle overturning, impacting both the Tahoe and a 2004 Ford Expedition, driven by Ronald J. Hicken of Smithton.
“Brandon J. Hill suffered severe injuries and was immediately airlifted to the University of Missouri Hospital,” said Police Chief Wirt. ” It’s a relief to report that Mr. Hill is now recovering at home, and the community’s thoughts and prayers have been greatly appreciated during this time.” Kayla R. Blakely and her young passenger were also injured and taken to healthcare facilities. Jacob A. Weeks and Troy Harms, passengers in the International, sustained moderate injuries.
Sadly, the report from the Highway Patrol revealed that seat belts were not worn by any of the injured individuals. Ronald J. Hicken, who did use his seat belt, was unharmed.
Warehouse Tire employees displayed remarkable quickness and presence of mind, employing floor jacks to alleviate the pressure on Mr, Hill, who was trapped under his vehicle. “Their immediate actions may very well have saved Mr. Hills life,” commended Police Chief Wirt.
“All involved vehicles were irreparably damaged and have been towed away,” added Police Chief Wirt. “I also want to highlight the exemplary response from our first responders: Sedalia Police, Fire Department, and Pettis County Deputies.”
“In the face of such tragedies, the importance of safety precautions like seat belt use becomes glaringly obvious. This incident serves as a stark reminder that seat belts do save lives and prevent further injury,” said Mayor Andrew Dawson. “I’m incredibly proud of our citizens who acted swiftly and compassionately to assist in this critical situation. The safety and well-being of our residents will always be our highest priority, and my deepest sympathies are with all those impacted,”
