Washington Street Bridge to Reopen – Northbound Traffic Only
Bridge Inspectors with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) found issues with the bridge over the railroad tracks on Washington Street during a routine inspection in February of 2024. Due to the extent of the issues found, the City of Sedalia immediately closed the bridge to all traffic. The City then worked with HDR, Inc. to establish a plan moving forward. On Tuesday, July 9th, during a City Council Work Session, the Council voted to use physical barriers and “Do Not Enter” and “One Way” signage in order to provide a single 11.0-foot lane on the east side to allow northbound traffic to cross the bridge. They also voted to purchase traffic signals to be used to allow northbound traffic to be green at all times, except when someone is headed southbound, to be implemented upon arrival.
